Food Markets

The northwest part of Turkey has good agriculture and is where the organic movement is slowly taking hold. The government has two all organic islands off the coast a little, hoping to further the cause. But on the whole, I've been told, fertilizers and pesticides are used much less in the first place. This is what I saw in the markets:

In any decent sized town, they will have once or twice weekly markets, sometimes three. This one covered at least an acre.
She's happy. I'd be psyched too if I could choose from 3 different green beans and pay 1 or 2 Lira for a Kilo.

I see melons being plucked off the ground as I pass fields, and then in the market.

Perfectly ripe figs, grapes, and tomatoes.

Peppers are in season and you see all kinds. Sweet peppers, hot peppers, bell peppers of different sizes. And the eggplant are great, it's a main ingredient in many of the dishes I've had.

More peppers, tomatoes, and green beans, one of my favorite things I've had here so far.
