Lattakia

Latakkia is known for it's western values and liberal mindset compared to the more conservative parts of Syria. It's been a port town hosting many different kinds of people for hundreds of years. But I think they might be overdoing it here. It's a chicken restaurant, of course.

Syrian coast. I'm not showing the mounds of trash and the sad beach.

They love some desserts here too.

Man selling coffee on the street- you see this a lot in Syria. Either like this or guys walk around with a steel type container and dole out coffee to whoever stops them, like in parks for example.

These were just baked and hot. I got the top ones, filled with cheese. The mini pizzas had peppers and tomatoes on them.

Nice guy on the oven.

Signs, signs, everywhere signs. Blockin' up the scenery, all in foreign rhymes. Sayin this and that, can't you see the signs?!

They love the nargileh here. Puffin on fruit flavored tobacco at cafes is definitely a well practiced pastime here. This is what amounts to a head shop.

Grape seller right outside my hotel.

This is breakfast. Hummus with chickpeas and heaps of olive oil. Served with pickles, pickled peppers, tomatoes and a healthy amount of bread to scoop it up. Very different, very good.

And they were baking fresh bread in the back oven, then plopped it on the table.

This time with pickled eggplant.

I think they're closed.

Newfound friends outside a schwarma shop.
